This year, we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of SOLIDWORKS at our local PLM Innovation Day events.
In 1995, something big happened in the world of engineering and design. SOLIDWORKS was born.
One of the companies that has grown alongside SOLIDWORKS is our customer, Industrilås – a Swedish manufacturer of locking solutions that began in a family garage in 1981. What started as a small-scale operation with manual tools and hand-drawn designs has evolved into a global enterprise with over 500 employees.
As the company expanded, it became clear that more advanced tools were needed to keep up with product development and innovation. That’s when SOLIDWORKS entered the picture – and it’s been a long-term partner in their growth ever since.
Today, Industrilås relies on SOLIDWORKS to manage every stage of their design process: from 3D modeling and simulation to 3D printing prototypes and generating detailed 2D drawings. Get an inside look at their 30-year partnership with SOLIDWORKS in the video below.
29 years of using SOLIDWORKS
Of course, behind every innovation journey are the people who help drive it forward. One of those is our colleague, Martin Jensen, who’s been using SOLIDWORKS since it launched in Denmark in 1996. And he’s still going strong.
Martin remembers the early days:
“We were out doing demos for companies, showing what 3D could do. They’d bring a 2D drawing and ask us to model it live. A lot of the time, we’d discover mistakes in their drawing — the part just couldn’t be made as shown. That’s when people realized what a difference 3D actually makes”
What’s impressed Martin most over the years is how far the platform has come – not just in power, but in connectivity.
“You build one model, and from that you can make production drawings, do stress tests, create marketing visuals, even generate toolpaths for manufacturing. It all comes from the same model. That kind of workflow was unthinkable back in the day.”
Today, tools like the 3DEXPERIENCE platform bring even more to the table. Teams can store files, collaborate, and manage revisions, whether they’re across the hall or across the globe.
Join us in celebrating 30 years of SOLIDWORKS!

Our PLM Innovation Day events across the Nordics and Baltics will take place this autumn – and we’d love to see you there.
Registration opens soon, so stay tuned for more details.
