The new release is just round the corner. That´s why I thought it would be the perfect time to team up with two of our most knowledgeable technical experts to get their thoughts on the new version: SOLIDWORKS 2023.
Helena Eidgärde and Jens Andertoft are both among our most knowledgeable technical experts with over 20 years of SOLIDWORKS experience. So it’s no surprise, that they have already tested the new version. What are their thoughts about it? Let´s find out!
Which SOLIDWORKS 2023 function piques your interest the most?
Definitely the new Configured Skipped Instances in Patterns, says Helena, while Jens is more into the new Automatically Optimized Resolved mode:
“This is a great new function that foremost will help new or more inexperienced users to save time and avoid confusion when working in assemblies.”
But how can these functions help users save time in their daily tasks?
Jens continues: “Since you don’t have to manually keep track of Lightweight/Resolved components the user can concentrate on the design work, and since this a per-user setting, more experienced users still can choose to work the regular way by managing Lightweight/Resolved components manually. So, a very useful and flexible new option that I think the users are going to like.
Also, as working a lot with PDM, I’m really fond of all the new small enhancements that has been implemented in this release. Subtle as they may seem, I think they will help the everyday work in SOLIDWORKS PDM.
Helena believes that the new Configured Skipped Instances in Patterns will save users a lot of time and do the work easier for those who are working with configuration – and wants to vary the instances of the pattern in different configurations.
What are your hopes for the launch event this year?
Jens: “Because this is my first time presenting at a live launch event I’ll be nervous. But I’m also excited to finally, after years of pandemic, meet all of our customers face to face and deliver all of the exciting news that always comes with a new release of SOLIDWORKS.”
Helena: “This year, I expect to deliver a lot of good news to the customer. But it’s also great to have time to talk to all SOLIDWORKS users now that there’s a live event again!”
What is your favorite feature from previous releases?
Helena: “My favourite function from past releases is the S-key and on that one the “Command Search”. Above all, it saves a lot of time as I don’t have to look for my commands. It’s easy to use and can be customised the way I want it.”
Jens: “In 2019 the enhanced Graphics Pipeline was introduced and even if it was good already then, it has been improved every year and is now a must for every user to take advantage of. Another personal favourite is the Drawing Detailing Mode, first seen in SOLIDWORKS 2020, which greatly reduces the time spent waiting for drawings to load.”
So, to sum up the 5 timesaving functions:
- Configured Skipped Instances in Patterns
- Automatically Optimized Resolved mode
- Command Search
- Graphics Pipeline
- Drawing Detailing Mode
