Q&A from the PLM Innovation Day Webinar

Our experts, Martin Jensen and Viktor Almkvist, hosted a webinar with the key elements from the PLM Innovation Day. They presented some of the key news from SOLIDWORKS 2025, as well as how you can increase your R&D process by gathering all the processes in one platform. Read the Q&A from the webinar, it might answer your questions as well.

There are talks that you need to update your SOLIDWORKS to the current version when you update SOLIDWORKS – Is there a reason for this?

We have done several tests – and see a time saving well above 20% in all cases.
Please also see our Update Files video in the PLM Group library on SolidProfessor. You can access the exclusive PLM Group library through your Elite Service Plan.

How is SpeedPak shown in BOM and Drawings?

SpeedPak in Drawings

When you dimension SpeedPak configurations in drawings, you can only dimension to edges that are included in the SpeedPak, which are shown in black. Edges not included in the SpeedPak are shown in gray. When you print the drawing, all the lines print in black unless you select Color / Gray scale in the Page Setup dialog box.

Exporting to DXF/DWG files is not supported for SpeedPak drawings.

In a drawing, when you create a bill of materials for an assembly whose active configuration is a SpeedPak configuration, you can include columns for other configurations in addition to the SpeedPak configuration.

In an assembly document, when you create a bill of materials for an assembly whose active configuration is a SpeedPak configuration, you can include only the active SpeedPak configuration in the BOM.

You can use the Balloon tool to add balloons to all items in a SpeedPak assembly, but the Auto Balloon tool is not supported.

Where can I find the SolidProfessor area to see how to check and increase the SOLIDWORKS perfomance?

Once you have Service Plans Elite, you have access to the exclusive PLM Group Library where we add different videos to help you increase your performance.
You need to be logged into SolidProfessor. The first item in the Library drop-down is the video.

Is there any news on SOLIDWORKS and software stability? We have had crashes daily for about a year.

SOLIDWORKS 2025 is so far a really stable version. A lot of times when we are investigating crashes the problem is related to windows or graphics driver issues.

Make sure that your Windows are 100% stable, and graphics drivers are updated and installed correctly. You might need to have your IT department to do the following.

1. Check that the hardware has updated firmware and drivers, we have seen issues be solved by updating a docking station’s firmware.
2. See our guide to Select and Install NVIDIA Grpahics Driver
3. Check also Windows Event Logs for errors in windows – specially in the Application and System section.

If all the above is without error – the next step is to record the crash with SOLIDWORKS RX. Send that log file to us at our support, then we and SOLIDWORKS Corp. can help in investigation the issue.

Is it possible to delete a feature from a model tree without deleting the ones depending on that?

It depends on the relationship between the different features.

You will in the ‘Confirm Delete‘ see what is deleted, depending on your settings. See some examples in the pictures below.

I have read that there are problems with Hole Wizard in SOLIDWORKS 2025?

We have no record of problems with the Hole Wizard in SOLIDWORKS 2025.
There was a bug in SOLIDWORKS 2024 SP 4, which was only in that service pack. A hotfix has been released to solve this issue.
