Here’s the one that’s hardest to price and easiest to underweight: what happens when the server has a bad day. A PDM outage doesn’t just inconvenience IT – it stops engineers from checking files in or out, stalls approvals, and depending on timing, can hold up a release. Ask anyone who’s lived through it and they won’t remember the exact euro figure. They’ll remember the afternoon.
So what’s the actual number?
Run a rough version of the math – hardware amortized over five years, ten IT hours a month at €65, and €2,500 a year in licensing and tooling – and a fairly typical setup lands somewhere in the €10,000–€12,000-a-year range. That’s before counting a bad week. For a smaller team running lean, it might be less. For a team on aging hardware with a part-time IT function stretched across five other priorities, it’s often more.
