Enaiblers aim to revolutionize diagnostics in remote areas with their portable, AI-powered microscope. By joining the SOLIDWORKS for Startups program, they efficiently managed files and completed multiple design iterations which was crucial to successfully implement new learnings from lab and field testing into the design at speed.
Peter Ward and Peter Dahlberg, founders of the Swedish startup Enaiblers, both have backgrounds within life science, product development and machine learning. And they both share a passion for technical developments that can make a real difference for people.
“Today, billions are affected by parasitic infections that spread through soil and water, especially in rural and remote areas. The first time I was in the field, I was shocked to see someone manually handling the sample test, counting how many parasitic eggs were in it. I thought, this is crazy; it should be automated,” says Peter Ward.
Startup program brought multiple benefits
Enaiblers dissected the microscope to its core, asking how it could be automated, enabling sample testing in remote places that lack expertise. By partnering with PLM Group and joining the Dassault Systèmes Startup program, Enaiblers used SOLIDWORKS to efficiently iterate on their design.
“We have both been using SOLIDWORKS since our university days and continued using it as product development consultants. When we spun off the project, we needed CAD software to continue updating our designs but had no budget for it. We Googled ‘free CAD software for startups,’ tried a few alternatives, but they lacked key features and usability we were used to. We discovered the SOLIDWORKS for Startups Program and were thrilled to continue using the software we were familiar with,” says Peter W, and continues:
“As a startup, our budget is extremely tight, so having free access to SOLIDWORKS was a game-changer. Being already familiar with the software meant our learning curve was minimal. Additionally, because our files, BOMs, fixtures, animations, and simulations were in SOLIDWORKS, we didn’t need to redo any work, saving us both time and resources.”
When starting the program, Enaiblers gained access to the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This allowed them to access and work on their CAD models in SOLIDWORKS anytime and anywhere, which was especially useful given their extensive work abroad.
“SOLIDWORKS has always been my go-to software for mechanical design. It’s intuitive and makes iterating the design efficient. With the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, we can manage our files and version history better,” says Peter W.
Innovative design empowers global health
“Most of the challenges we have faced concern how we can design parts smaller, lighter and cheaper. The costing and part reviewer modules have been helpful in understanding and improving the manufacturing of components and identifying costly operations.”
Using SOLIDWORKS, Enaiblers could rapidly iterate their designs, 3D print parts, eliminate unnecessary components, and enhance robustness.
“As we continue to iterate, our aim is to make the system more robust for remote settings, smaller, lighter, and more portable.”
Being able to redefine the diagnostic process thanks to their new design, Enaiblers has reduced the sample scanning to a matter of minutes. And now, when a sample is collected, the microscope can automatically count parasitic eggs with built-in AI-models so that a result can be given. In recent field testing, Enaiblers have shown that their new solution is significantly more sensitive in finding parasitic eggs compared to manual readings. This will make a huge difference in getting the correct interventions to those who need it most.
“It has been very rewarding with the recognition and support from Dassault Systèmes and PLM Group. They’ve helped promote our project and provided access to SOLIDWORKS, giving us the confidence that we can successfully bring our product to market.”
The Enaiblers team has created a solution that can be used anywhere, from a high-tech lab to a field in the middle of nowhere, offering hope and improved healthcare access to billions affected by parasitic infections worldwide.

The Startup program offers resources that enables early-stage companies to create and scale products without limitations.
