Satateräs Oy is a Finnish full-service machine workshop specializing in lifting and transfer equipment. Old tools reached their limits – and the need for stronger data security grew
Agility and customization require smooth processes and consistent rules from background systems. As projects evolve based on customer needs, design data must remain controlled and secure – without unnecessary maintenance overhead.
“We didn’t have major issues with our previous solution, but with HostPLM we were able to eliminate the need for our own server and improve data security – that was the most important criterion for us,” explains Tuomas Lähteenmäki.
He continues: “In addition, our old server was reaching the end of its lifecycle and had limited capacity, so we needed to make a change anyway. HostPLM solved this challenge easily and smoothly.”

When their own server began to age and storage space had to be freed up constantly, maintenance started to slow down otherwise agile operations. A solution was needed that could lighten the IT environment and bring greater reliability to everyday work.
“We have been working with PLM Group for a long time – for example, we have purchased our SOLIDWORKS licenses from them. So it was natural to continue the collaboration with HostPLM,” explains Tuomas Lähteenmäki.

“Everything has gone smoothly, and your support service has been fast and professional. If a solution hasn’t been immediately available, the issues have been carefully investigated,” Lähteenmäki emphasizes.
Implementation completed in just one day
“All in all, the implementation went really smoothly and quickly. Once the decision to adopt HostPLM was made, we contacted PLM Group and everything moved forward rapidly. The installations on their side were handled efficiently – if I remember correctly, everything was up and running within a single day.
No separate training was needed, since we had already received the basic PDM training earlier. For regular users, the system change was practically invisible, as HostPLM didn’t affect how the system was used – only the server environment,” Tuomas explains.
We’ve had only positive experiences
The HostPLM solution includes PDM, which has brought consistency to Satateräs’ processes – and with it, greater clarity to design work.
Tuomas is happy to share the company’s positive experiences:
“PDM is easy to use, and since the interface resembles Windows, it was quick to learn.
When all designers work in the same way, it’s easy to take over someone else’s tasks, for example during vacations.”
Lähteenmäki has nothing negative to say about the HostPLM solution – on the contrary, he emphasizes that Satateräs has been very satisfied:
“HostPLM has been a really good solution for us. From a designer’s perspective, I can say there haven’t been any problems – everything works flawlessly. I’ve also heard only positive feedback from other customers.”
He adds: “From the user’s point of view, it makes no difference where the server is located – the experience feels exactly the same.”
