Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)
We employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web Bugs), that help us better manage content on our site by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on Web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. In some cases we tie the information gathered by clear gifs to our customers’ personally identifiable information – e.g. if you use our online chat function.
We use clear gifs in our HTML-based emails to let us know which emails have been opened by recipients. This way we can keep track on what content readers find interesting and target the information in our newsletters to the interest of the recipients. If you would like to opt-out of these emails, you can always do this by clicking “unregister me” on the e-mails.
Use of your Personal Information
All the information gathered by log filer, cookies and clear gifs are used to optimize our services and give you the best possible user experience. By gaining insight into our preferences and interest we are able to provide you information about relevant products and services from PLM Group or our partners. In most cases the information are only used internally in PLM Group. In some cases, however, it can be necessary for us to share the information with third parties, if the third party is providing either us or our existing or potential customers with certain services – e.g. statistical analysis, customer support, delivery of goods or provide you with different kinds of information. Such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
From time to time we might contact you on behalf of external business partners about a particular offering that might be of interest to you. In those cases, your unique personally identifiable information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number) is not transferred to the third party.
A couple of times a year we contact our customers with voluntary surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or of potential new services. You will always have the option to unsubscribe.
Security of your Personal Information
We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. We secure the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. No method of safeguarding information is however 100 % secure, and therefore we can not guarantee complete security when sending data online. We do our very best to protect your information the best possible way, but submission of data happens on your own responsibility. When sensitive personal information (such as a credit card number) is collected on our site and/or transmitted to other websites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.
