Passion Inspires Passion

janne_tuominen
Janne Tuominen

Business Director, Design Solutions

Last February I had the opportunity to attend 3DEXPERIENCE World in Nashville and it was an amazing experience. The event was packed with innovation, connection, and inspiration – afterwards I felt refreshed and motivated to pursue my goals with renewed vigour.

Throughout the event, I connected with some of the most passionate and curious designers, makers, entrepreneurs, and students from around the world. Their excitement and dedication to their craft infected me, and it was clear that their passion drove their success.

Reflecting on my experience, I couldn’t help but think about the vital role passion plays in both our personal and professional lives. Whether we are just starting out or are seasoned professionals, passion is what keeps us motivated and drives us towards success.

Ever since we learned to draw a simple box on paper and design complex projects with CAD software, the iterative learning process of try, fail and try again is a familiar experience for many of us. It’s an essential process of growth for designers, makers, and entrepreneurs alike.

Passioned Startups can grow very quickly if they are supported

At the event, I was particularly inspired by the innovative projects showcased by the students who had developed their skills using 3DEXPERIENCE. I was excited to see how some of these projects had evolved into actual business ideas. Those examples highlighted to me the importance of supporting early-stage startups and entrepreneurs.

Startups have a unique energy and ability to grow quickly when their business plan and innovative product are supported. However, this growth also creates new challenges, such as how to ensure that existing systems can support the increased demand. Cloud and platform-based solutions, flexible licensing models, and partnerships are all key assets that can help startups navigate these challenges and continue to grow.

Innovation, Connection, and Inspiration – Highlights from the 3DEXPERIENCE World

Finally, I was struck by the words of motivational speaker Sebastian Terry, who said that “Passion inspires passion.” This phrase perfectly captures the energy and excitement I experienced at 3DEXPERIENCE World. Pursuing our passions and supporting others creates a community of enthusiastic and motivated individuals who strive to succeed.

In summary, 3DEXPERIENCE World was an incredible experience that left me feeling inspired, excited, and motivated. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with such a passionate and innovative community. I really look forward to continue to pursue my own passions and support others in doing the same.

The way sustainability is shaping manufacturing

E-waste is a growing problem for the tech industry and a contributor to climate change. In 2020, the volume of electronic waste generated was 55.5 million metric tons (Statista, 2020) and it is estimated that this number will double by 2030 (The Conversation, 2020). In 2019, only 17.4% of e-waste was formally collected and recycled (The Conversation, 2020). What happened with the remainder is not clear.

Long-term engineering success rarely happens alone Long-term engineering success rarely happens alone.

At Schur Automation, building advanced packaging systems means constantly refining how their engineers work from tools to workflows.

Good engineering tools matter. But good conversations matter just as much.

That’s why they’ve worked closely with us since 2004.

“The team at PLM Group listen to us. They help with both big and small things. And when challenges come up, we know we have a partner to turn to,” says Dorte Jensen, Technical Assistant at Schur Automation.

A Nonlinear Analysis with Abaqus/Explicit 🍝🍷 Trad A Nonlinear Analysis with Abaqus/Explicit 🍝🍷

Traditionally, SIMULIA Abaqus has been used to simulate fast dynamic phenomena. Typical applications are car crashes, drop tests, and explosion loads.

In this video, we performed a very nonlinear analysis with large displacements, numerous contacts, and impact loads with the Abaqus/Explicit Solver that's available in every Abaqus license.

A few notes about the analysis:
♣️ The cards are modelled using elastic shell elements
♣️ The surface of the table and the ball are rigid bodies
♣️ Applied loads are gravity and the initial velocity of the ball
♣️ Contacts between parts are modeled using the General Contact Functionality
♣️ The coefficient of friction is 0.3

Additionally, the Explicit Solver is effective in studying slower quasi-static nonlinear events. Complicated contact interactions require a lot of experience and tricks from the user to get the solution to converge when using the traditional Abaqus/Implicit solver. In cases like this, the Explicit solver can be the right choice as it is easier to use and faster.

If you ever encounter problematic contact cases, this is worth a try and we will gladly guide you forward 🙏🏼
