CAD Administration Handbook For SOLIDWORKS

One exciting book has arrived – CAD Administration handbook for SOLIDWORKS written by Ants Palgi and Alar Jõgi. This unique book aims to make SOLIDWORKS CAD setup more unified that it is today. The book is focused how to set up complete and sustainable design system (templates, libraries, serial numbers, etc.) without looking too deeply to all available features and functionality.
This is a unique collection of best practices and working examples.

It is essential CAD Administrator survival guide!

Two enthusiastic and professional long-term SOLIDWORKS users and CAD administrators have put their minds together to share their profound experience about topics which are fundamental for CAD administration.

Quite often companies struggle with CAD data and management. It is often result of poor project management, lack of knowledge about CAD administration and no dedicated-skilled person for CAD administrator. Depending on company size, it does not have to be a full-time job, but there must be one person, who have resources and dedication to keep things under control.

It is CAD administrator responsibility to keep the system in order and without issues where all engineers must do repeating tasks which could be avoided. Furthermore, it is management responsibility to provide enough resources (mostly time) to CAD administrator to do those things. Often CAD administration is like a side job. But even in this case, when you have ten engineers for example, and potentially CAD administrator could make everybody’s work 5..10% more efficient, it is clear to everybody that if CAD manager spends five days in a month of implementing new things it is worth the money.

Yes, in smaller companies effect might not be so big, but every few percentage of efficiency increase will save a lot of money in the long term.

Also,  CAD administrator in smaller companies should take responsibility for IT issues and be a contact person between company workers and IT service provider. Often people who are interested enough to become CAD admins have to have quite wide knowledge on different technological things.

As there are described tons of duties what need a strong management, self-confidence, and technical skills, unfortunately, there is almost nothing what can help those special people. Undoubtedly this book can help a little bit to avoid reinventing the wheel. It really does it!
