Let’s get started!

HOW TO USE SIMULIA

Using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for your simulations offer many advantages compared to the traditional approach with standalone softwares.

With the cloud based platform your 3D-CAD-model can be directly linked to your simulation, and no exports or manual file conversions are needed, all is saved on your cloud. The results can be viewed by everyone with access and results and insights are shared easily between departments.

With our flexible and scalable licensing options, you can choose to rent or buy the software – all depending on your need. Renting a licence is a good option who wants easy access to excellent tools and full flexibility at a low cost.

SIMULIA DOMAINS
on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

The SIMULIA brand covers the domains: Structures, Fluids,
Electromagnetics, Vibro-Acoustics, and Multi-body motions, along with Multiscale/Multidiscipline tools and Optimization and Automation Tools. Here are three of those presented:
Structures, Fluids, and Electromagnetics.

Disciplines

Structural simulations

Structural Simulations on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform are based on the powerful and world-class Abaqus technology. Depending on your needs there are several roles with different capabilities available. The entry roles enable linear and static simulations on parts and simply connected assemblies

Fluid Simulations/CFD

Fluid Simulations/CFD on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform lets you analyze the flow of gases and liquids in external and internal systems. Steady-state and transient simulations of laminar and turbulent, Newtonian and non-Newtonian, incompressible, and compressible flow can be done.

Electromagnetics

These tools let you simulate electric and magnetic fields and their interaction. Virtually all electronic components emit electromagnetic waves and of course communication devices in particular. This role on 3DEXPERIENCE is called  Electromagnetics Engineer

Structural simulations

Structural Simulations on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform are based on the powerful and world-class Abaqus technology. Depending on your needs there are several roles with different capabilities available. The entry roles enable linear and static simulations on parts and simply connected assemblies.
Typical aims of such a simulation can be:

  • Have I designed my component with the right dimensions to sustain the static load during operation?
  • What are the elastic deformations of a support frame for a large machinery, when the working loads are applied to it?
  • Are there any areas of the model that experience high stresses?

The more advanced roles have the capacity to run for example highly non-linear impact and crash tests, large plasticity or rubber deformation scenarios, or random vibration and natural frequency extractions.
Typical aims of such a simulation can be:

  • How does my rubber component deform when elongated?
  • Will the gasket seal hold under pressure?
  • Will the screen of your smartphone crack when dropped onto the ground?
  • What will the deformation of the chassis and frame of a vehicle during a vehicle crash test?
  • Will my support frame for a drone propeller and motor vibrate too much?

Do you need to evaluate the durability of your products to safeguard against material fatigue?
SIMULIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform uses fe-safe technology to calculate damage and lifespan to simulate the durability of your product.

When you need to minimize the weight of your product while maximising the strength, Tosca technology is used for topology optimization, finding the optimal shape for your given load case.

Fluid Simulations /CFD

An easy-to-use and powerful CFD tool is available on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. It lets you analyze the flow of gases and liquids in external and internal systems. Steady-state and transient simulations of laminar and turbulent, Newtonian and non-Newtonian, incompressible, and compressible flow can be done.
Typical aims of such a simulation can be:

  • Is my electronics component cooling off as it should?
  • What is the drag around my drone model as it travels through the air?
  • What is the distribution of air in the different channels in my pipe system?

This role is called Fluid Dynamics Engineer

There is also a dedicated role for evaluating plastic injection molding,
like Solidworks Plastics, but now on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

This solution is typically good for questions like:

  • Are the walls and ribs of my plastic component of the right thickness?
  • Will any sink marks appear?
  • Will the component shrink or warp after cooling and ejection?

This role is called Plastic Injection Engineer

Electromagnetics

These tools let you simulate electric and magnetic fields and their interaction. Virtually all electronic components emit electromagnetic waves and of course communication devices in particular.

Electromagnetic simulation can typically address questions like:

  • What is the WIFI coverage?
  • Are there any interferences between different antennas?
  • What are the optimal antenna placements for best reach?

This role on 3DEXPERIENCE is called  Electromagnetics Engineer

Frequently asked questions

To make an informed choice about SIMULIA, you need all the relevant information. Here are the answers to the questions we are asked most frequently.

Can I use SIMULIA on 3DEXPERIENCE to simulate directly on my Solidworks Models?

Yes! There are several ways. Solidworks can be directly linked to Simulia on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and the link between your 3D-model and your simulation results is maintained. This saved a lot of time because no exports or manual conversions are needed when moving between the two softwares.

Why should I choose SIMULIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform over Solidworks Simulation?

Solidworks Simulation is a very competent solution for structural or fluid simulations, and Simulia takes it to the next level. Simulia handles complex non-linear and dynamic problems and has all the advantages of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and its collaborative nature.

I cannot do my Simulations on the cloud for security or other reasons

Simulia on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform conforms to relevant security standards and is considered of highest importance. Please see here for more information: https://www.3ds.com/trust/3dexperience-trust-center
In addition to this, there are standalone solutions as well, for example Abaqus for structural simulations.

Can I test SIMULIA on 3DEXPERIENCE before I invest?

This depends on your needs and situation. Reach out to us and our sales representatives for an offer.

Does Simulia on 3DEXPERIENCE run on GPU or CPU?

Some Simulia software can run on GPU, but Simulia on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform runs either on your local CPUs or on cloud cores.
