Sneak Peek to SOLIDWORKS 2020 – What’s New?

Petter Månsson

Solution Manager - Sweden

The time is finally here – the release of a new SOLIDWORKS version. Each year the new release is filled with improvements and new features, and according to Gian Paolo Bassi, CEO of SOLIDWORKS, the development is driven by the users. This year’s release is of course not an exception – I promise you there are several improvements that boost up and simplify your daily design work.

PLM Group organizes launch events in each of our countries, and all our events will introduce you to the news of SOLIDWORKS 2020. We warmly welcome all of you to our events, please click here for more information and sign-ups.

For those who can’t wait any longer, here is my top three of what’s new in SOLIDWORKS 2020.

Detailing Mode on Drawings

Performance has always been on a high focus for the development team of SOLIDWORKS, and this year makes no exception. With “Detailing Mode”, SOLIDWORKS 2020 enables quick opening of large and complex drawings.

“Detailing Mode” does not actually load the models, but views and annotations are intact. You can also make changes, like moving views, adding dimensions and annotations and also print. The commands that do not work are dimmed out, so you can see easily all of your options available.

With “Detailing Mode” you will save a lot of your valuable time!

Flexible Components

It has been possible to create flexible components before, but with the tool “Make part Flexible” the task is even easier. By re-mapping the external references, the component is continuously up-to-date and follows the remaining geometry. No additional configurations or files need to be created, and flexible components are updated independently.

With Flexible Components, you get to your project done faster!

More Efficient Simulation

SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2020 has a new functionality that improves usage while reducing or retaining the calculation time. Now you can choose to use “Draft Quality” mesh on some parts while others have “High Quality” mesh. SOLIDWORKS 2020 also has improved functionality for connectors – which can now be either “Rigid” or “Distributed”. “Distributed Connectors” provides more realistic stress and eliminates results of “Hotspot”.

SOLIDWORKS 2020 provides even faster simulations with increased quality!

3DEXPERIENCE

SOLIDWORKS is integrated with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform by Dassault Systèmes, which opens new possibilities for communication, cooperation and simulation. SOLIDWORKS together with 3DEXPERIENCE platform boosts your product development to a new level.

See the short introduction here, we will show you more at the launch event.

Of course, these are not the all new improvements and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2020. We will present more of these at our Launch Events, and they will cover everything from SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD to PDM, MBD, CAM, Composer and of course Simulation. Hope to see you there!
