SOLIDWORKS depends on a stable, fully supported Windows operating system to deliver the performance and reliability you expect.
But that stability is coming to an end – Microsoft has announced it will stop supporting Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
It means no more free security patches, bug fixes, or stability updates from Microsoft. For SOLIDWORKS users, this milestone carries a big impact on performance, compatibility, and support.
Without ongoing Windows updates, the operating system can no longer guarantee the performance, security, and library compatibility that SOLIDWORKS needs – from dialog boxes to memory management to file system access.
As a direct result of the end of support, SOLIDWORKS 2026 will not support Windows 10.
What does this mean for you?
- If you’re running SOLIDWORKS 2021 or older on Windows 10, it may work for now, but your setup is living on borrowed time.
- Should your hardware fail and need replacing, any new computer will come with Windows 11 pre-installed, and those older SOLIDWORKS versions are not certified or supported to run on that OS. This could leave you with costly downtime, disrupted projects, or forced upgrades at the worst possible moment.
If your workstation is four or five years old, it’s smart to plan ahead. Replacing your hardware before it breaks means you can choose the timing instead of dealing with an emergency.
Upgrading to the latest SOLIDWORKS makes sure it works properly with Windows 11, without compatibility issues. It also helps you avoid delays that can happen when old systems fail. Waiting until your computer stops working or your operating system is no longer secure would be a risk.
Furthermore, staying up to date with your system and SOLIDWORKS license gives you several clear benefits:
- You’ll get better performance from both your hardware and software, along with new features in each SOLIDWORKS release that can make your work faster and easier.
- You’ll also have full support from PLM Group and SOLIDWORKS, without being held back by version limits. And with a fully supported operating system, you’ll keep your setup secure and stable.
